This report presents the results of an explorative study into the understanding and appreciation of ecological networks as a policy concept in Europe. The aim of this study was to provide information that would be relevant for the implementation of the Pan-European Ecological Network (PEEN). The study also took into account understanding and appreciation of ecological networks in general: whatever doubts exist concerning the validity, relevance or feasibility of ecological networks in general will affect opinions on an ecological network at a Pan-European scale.
