This publication is the final report of the European project ‘Towards building blocks for an EC action plan for the relationship between agriculture and biodiversity’, which aimed to support the development of the EC-Agricultural Action Plan on Biodiversity, under the European Community Biodiversity Strategy. Potentially, the EC-Agricultural Action Plan can make a major contribution towards sustainable development in Europe and abroad.
The report includes an extensive analysis and an evaluation of the linkages between agriculture and biodiversity within existing policies at EU level, including the Agenda 2000 CAP reform. The analysis reaches beyond the ecological linkages between agriculture and biodiversity by including an evaluation of socio-economic aspects, marketing instruments and policy instruments, in this way fully acknowledging the multifunctional character of agriculture.
Several European experts on biodiversity and agriculture provided valuable input into this publication. The report includes the papers from the workshop.
