On 10 October 2007 the side event ‘Connecting nature and putting the PEEN into practice’ took place in Belgrade, as part of the 6th Ministerial Conference ‘Environment for Europe’ (10-12 October 2007).

This side event was organized by ECNC-European Centre for Nature Conservation and the Council of Europe, in cooperation with UNEP, IUCN, CEEWEB, ECOFORUM and the SEENET Focus Group. It took place under the auspices of the Council of the Pan-European Biological and Landscape Diversity Strategy and the Council of Europe Committee of Experts of the Pan-European Ecological Network. The event was attended by 35 participants.

The aim of the side event was to present the main achievements so far in establishing the Pan-European Ecological Network (PEEN), focusing on stakeholder-oriented implementation activities and discussing ways to increase the realization of the two so-called Kyiv Targets regarding PEEN towards the year 2010.

The current report summarizes the presentations and discussions held at the side event. It follows the order of the meeting’s programme.
