This publication addresses the possible involvement of financial institutes and mechanisms in resourcing biodiversity-relevant activities. It also includes the proceedings of the high-level side event on ‘Resourcing sustainable biodiversity – towards implementing the Convention on Biological Diversity’, organized in the framework of the 6th Conference of the Parties of the Convention on Biological Diversity (The Hague, the Netherlands, April 2002).

This publication also contains a review of the 2nd National Reports to the Convention on Biological Diversity, with an analysis to identify the degree of implementation of Article 20 on Financial Resourcing especially by the European Parties. All appropriate elements relating to the involvement of the financial sector were highlighted to give an indication of the degree of current or existing involvement of the banking community in financing CBD implementation as perceived by the governmental parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity.
