10 messages for 2010
To celebrate the International Year of Biodiversity, the European Environment Agency (EEA) published a series of ‘10 messages for 2010’ covering biodiversity themes and major ecosystem types in Europe.
The messages were aimed at experts as well as the broader public and cover the following themes: Climate change and biodiversity, Protected areas, Freshwater ecosystems, Marine ecosystems, Forest ecosystems, Urban ecosystems, Agricultural ecosystems, Mountain ecosystems, Coastal ecosystems, and Cultural landscapes and biodiversity heritage.
Each message provides a short assessment focusing on a specific ecosystem or issue related to biodiversity in Europe, presenting an introduction to the current situation, an analysis of main pressures, resulting trends, and conclusions that include biodiversity policy instruments at the European level.
