Mobile application for smartphones
In 2012 ECNC received support from the DG Environment programme for operating grants to European environmental NGOs, framed by the overall goal to strengthen ECNC’s contribution as an NGO to the development and implementation of EU biodiversity policy and legislation.
As part of the awareness raising target on the importance of large herbivores and other large mammals for natural processes, a mobile application for smartphones was developed.
This e-guide, ‘Large Herbivores of Europe’, will help people identify species in nature and provide easy access to all necessary information. For instance, it contains information on species (distribution, habitat, food, etc.), photographs, pictures and information about species’ tracks, an interactive key for identifying species and an alphabetical list of species in the specific region with a search function.
The app ‘Large Herbivores of Europe’ is online from January 2013 onwards and available for downloading free of charge in the Google play and iTunes app stores.
This application was developed in cooperation with ETI BioInformatics, an expert in species determination applications for Android and iPhone.
LHNet received financial support from the European Commission LIFE+ programme.
