European Biodiversity Finance Compendium
The ECNC Biodiversity Finance Compendium is meant to facilitate the discussions on and the practical implementation of biodiversity financing mechanisms and instruments. It complements the Biodiversity Financing Clearing House Mechanism (CHM), and resulted from priorities in the field of EU and pan-European priorities on integrating biodiversity into the policies and operations of the financial sector.
The Compendium is a concise, yet comprehensive compilation of a body of knowledge on biodiversity finance practice and policies.
Several target groups benefit from the Compendium. There is immediate relevance for local entrepreneurs and finance, international financial institutions (IFI) and governmental agencies that have policies and programmes to promote pro-biodiversity investment. NGOs provide encouragement and expertise for innovative financial mechanisms for biodiversity, and can also facilitate involvement from local stakeholders.
The European Biodiversity Financing Compendium project ran during 2007, and resulted in a publication European Biodiversity Finance Compendium, issued in 2008.
Swiss Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN).
The European Biodiversity Finance Compendium enlarges the scope of work that ECNC has undertaken in the field of biodiversity investments, and comprises a review of different biodiversity finance mechanisms and lessons learned from existing investment funds. It is designed to support entrepreneurs and NGOs as well as governments in their efforts to promote biodiversity finance initiatives.
