Since 2005, steps have been taken in the direction of far-reaching close cooperation between ECNC and The Coastal & Marine Union (EUCC). In November 2008 it was decided by the governing councils of both organizations to create a common holding under the - new style - flag of ECNC. The holding will consist of two units: Biodiversity & Nature and Coastal & Marine.
The underlying rationale of this cooperation is as follows:
- a holding that covers both the terrestrial and marine areas and their relationship can respond well to the increasing policy attention at global, European and national levels for integrated processes and new forms of coastal management and nature and biodiversity conservation;
- large holdings have more impact content-wise and policy-wise, and can offer more to partners and clients;
- the regional offices of both ECNC and EUCC will represent both coastal & marine and biodiversity interests, and thus increase their outreach.
In 2009, further steps will be taken to implement the integration decision of the governing councils of ECNC and EUCC. For information and contact addresses for coastal & marine issues, please visit http://www.eucc.net/.
