European Topic Centre on Biodiversity to celebrate its 20th anniversary
On 18 and 19 May 2015, the European Topic Centre on Biological Diversity (ETC/BD) held its regular management committee meeting at the European Environment Agency, of which it is a part, in Copenhagen. This meeting was a little different than usual, as it marked the 20th anniversary of the ETC/BD under the same lead. The French National Museum of Natural History has coordinated the ETC/BD and provided its core team since 1995. ECNC is one of the ETC/BD consortium partners who have been involved right from the start.
After two days taking stock of progress in implementing this year’s work, the current consortium held a small celebration, in which they were joined by Mr Ronan Uhel, Head of the Natural Systems and Vulnerability Programme. Mr Uhel has also been closely involved in the ETC/BD from the start. The following day, all Topic Centres and National Focal Points of the EEA gathered for a wider meeting, and also celebrated this milestone and the 25th anniversary of the EU regulation establishing the EEA.
On 20 May, the EEA published a keystone publication on biodiversity, its State of Nature in the EU report. This report exemplifies one of the key products that the ETC/BD plays a lead role in producing.
