ECNC and Lithuanian Government preparing the Second Boreal Natura 2000 Seminar

As lead contractor supporting the European Commission in the development and implementation of the Natura 2000 Biogeographical Process, ECNC provides support to the stakeholders and Member States involved in the Process. In light of this, ECNC representatives met with representatives of the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Lithuania and the National Visitors’ Centre of Protected Areas on 14 April 2016. The goal of this meeting, held at the Visitors’ Centre in Vilnius, Lithuania, was to discuss the arrangements in preparation for the Second Boreal Natura 2000 Seminar, which will be hosted there by the Lithuanian government at the beginning of October.

The preparatory meeting was very fruitful and all parties involved played a very constructive role and expressed similar attitudes to the organization of the Seminar. A short tour of the venue showed that the facilities at the Visitors’ Centre are splendid, displaying in a very engaging way the different protected areas in Lithuania and how they link together through the use of multi-media applications and hands-on exhibitions. The facilities will provide a very inspirational setting for the Seminar that will surely engage all participants in active discussions.

After the meeting, the representatives visited the Pavilniai Regional Park just outside Vilnius to get an idea of the surroundings and the protected areas in Lithuania. The Pavilniai Regional Park will potentially feature as one of the destinations for the field visits during the Seminar.

More details on the Second Boreal Natura 2000 Seminar will be provided through the Natura 2000 Communication Platform as they become available .
