Quality Destination in action!
QualityDestination’s philosophy is to improve quality of life, while taking each destination’s local and regional identity, culture and traditional values into account. We identify opportunities for socially responsible, sustainable nature-based tourism, and disseminate ways to achieve this in destinations with unique nature and landscape values, cultural and traditional lifestyles.
For 2016 the QualityDestination programme has established new objectives using innovative tools to further the communication of its core values at various events, such as holiday fairs and tourism events. On 12 and 13 January, we presented our values at the Vakantiebeurs (holiday fair) in Utrecht, the Netherlands.
Tourism businesses recognize the need to be more aware of the importance of limiting the impact of human activities on the environment. QualityDestination has also attracted quite a lot of interest from regular travel agencies. The reason for this interest is that the programme could also offer communities a way to create more jobs in nature-based tourism in an international context and help destinations to be in tune with the travel market in their vicinity. In addition to managing natural resources effectively, tour operators are interested in working with our destinations because recent years have seen an increase in visitor interest in natural and cultural heritage areas with pure, local identities. We believe that our strategy will be achieved by these beautiful showcase destinations scaling up sustainable tourism efforts together with like-minded tourism stakeholders.
