Continued cooperation with Urk fishing community to benefit the seas
ECNC Group representatives Rob Wolters and Robert Steenbergen recently visited Urk (the Netherlands) to speak with representatives of the fishing community about the ongoing cooperation in the framework of Healthy Seas. The meeting participants noted that the cooperation is progressing well, and explored more ways for Healthy Seas to ‘land’ in the Urker community, including via the sale of Healthy Seas socks in the VCU-The Maritime Specialist shop, established as part of the Urk Fisheries Cooperative.
In addition, it was agreed to increase the cooperation between Healthy Seas and the KIMO-led Fishing for Litter project.
During their visit, the ECNC Group representatives and the Urk-based waste recycling company, Sortas Recycling, exchanged information on recycling and cooperation. Sortas Recycling is involved in the cooperation with the Urk fishermen’s community.
