Embracing Estuaries – workshop results published
The two-day workshop ‘Embracing Estuaries – Management of Natura 2000 sites in Estuaries and Sea Ports’ took place on 15 and 16 September 2016, and was part of the Natura 2000 Biogeographical Process of the Atlantic Region. The workshop’s main goal was to encourage dialogue between scientists, practitioners and policymakers, and to encourage their collaboration on the challenges of managing Natura 2000 sites and implementing management plans in estuaries and sea ports.
During the Atlantic Seminar in 2012, all Member States were asked to propose specific recommendations for improving the conservation status of priority target habitats. They were also asked to initiate cross-border activities. Germany was leading the working group on estuaries in the context of the Biogeographical Process, and offered to hold a thematic networking event on Natura 2000 management planning regarding estuaries. Stiftung Lebensraum Elbe organized this workshop, with support from Eurosite, a member of the ECNC-led consortium of partners that support the EC in the development and implementation of the Natura 2000 Biogeographical Process.
