Message from ECNC's President and Executive Director
2008 is an important year for ECNC, being the fifteenth anniversary of our establishment. This merits some celebration.
ECNC was founded in 1993 as a European think tank for nature conservation by the widely respected Albert Klinkenbergh, who succeeded in translating his vision into reality by creating a truly pan-European centre. In his efforts to establish ECNC, he was supported by the Netherlands and Hungarian Governments, the Province of Noord-Brabant, the City of Tilburg, various other partners, such as IUCN and WCMC, and last but not least by Dr Antonio Machado, ECNC’s first President and initiator of the process ‘ECNC moving forward’.
And forward we moved. ECNC became a respected European Biodiversity Expertise Centre, which has initiated various innovations in nature conservation and built bridges between biodiversity interests and the wider interests of society and economy.
