ECNC believes that maintaining resilient ecosystems is the key to addressing the challenge of climate change. (ECNC Position Statement on Climate Change and Biodiversity, May 2007)
As part of Biodiversity Day 2007, ECNC launches its first Position Statement on 22 May 2007. The statement briefly highlights the views of ECNC on 'Climate Change and Biodiversity', obviously referring to the focus of Biodiversity Day 2007. At the bottom of this page you can find the complete statement.
This year, the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity decided the focus of International Biodiversity Day 2007 will be on 'Biodiversity and Climate Change'. This complements the designation of 2007 as the International Polar Year and coincides with UNEP’S World Environment Day theme of Climate Change. Lectures, seminars, film presentations, cultural events, exhibitions and school outreach activities are just some suggestions that you may wish to implement to help draw attention to one of the most critical issues facing our planet today.
The International Day for Biological Diversity on May 22 is one of the crucial recurring dates for Countdown 2010. On this day, Countdown 2010 partners all over Europe take the opportunity to celebrate biodiversity, and to celebrate their action to halt the loss of biodiversity by 2010. As the theme is climate change, all partners are encouraged to build their biodiversity day activities around that message. On www.countdown.net you can find a biodiversity day action pack. It includes material and tools you need to do your own press work.
