ECNC Coastal & Marine

Since 2005, steps have been taken in the direction of far-reaching close cooperation between ECNC and the Coastal & Marine Union (EUCC). In November 2008 it was decided by the governing councils of both organizations to create an ECNC Group, consisting of two units: Biodiversity & Nature and Coastal & Marine.

Early 2010, the ECNC Group was established. The members of the ECNC Group are ECNC, the Coastal & Marine Union (EUCC) and Centro MediterrĂ¡neo EUCC. EuroNatur, the NatureBureau and EECONET Action Fund are observers of the ECNC Group.

The underlying rationale of this cooperation is as follows:
  • a holding that covers both the terrestrial and marine areas and their relationship can respond well to the increasing policy attention at global, European and national levels for integrated processes and new forms of coastal management and nature and biodiversity conservation;
  • large holdings have more impact content-wise and policy-wise, and can offer more to partners and clients;
  • the regional offices of both ECNC and the Coastal and Marine Union will represent both coastal & marine and biodiversity and nature interests, and thus increase their outreach.
