In 2006 ECNC worked to stimulate the involvement of local and regional authorities in the Netherlands in reaching the European target to halt the loss of biodiversity by 2010. This led to the establishment of a national network of contacts and to basic information material for the target groups concerned.
Aim The project 'Biodiversity works in the region' aimed to build on this work by creating an information network for local and regional authorities as a support to reach the 2010 target. More specifically, this two-year project aimed to raise awareness of previous work on 'Biodiversiteit werkt', the 2010 target and the Countdown 2010 process. It stimulated the target groups to take action, collect best practice projects in an online register and stimulate an active network of partners.
Time frame The project ran from June 2007 to June 2009.
Funding The project was funded by the Netherlands Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment (VROM).
